Process

With this work process, imagery, and color drive the concept. Through experimentation I have landed on a set of colors that works for the vibrancy and delineation I’m going for.

I incise lines with an xacto knife or scalpel and then fill those lines with engobe after the bisque firing.

For the imagery I either work with pattern, or focus on the theme Americana. Using imagery of the 20th century to focus on narrative, contemporary issues with historical imagery, or the idea of a collective autobiography.

The last couple of months I have taken a break from heavy image decoration with mugs to develop new forms and functional objects. along with working within the framework of soda firing.

As I get more and more of a grasp with both of those, I will bring this work back more heavily.
